Clarkstown Education Foundation Awards Student Scholarships

(New City, NY….May 8, 2009) - Four Clarkstown High School seniors were awarded scholarships by the non-profit Clarkstown Education Foundation at the Clarkstown Board of Education Meeting held yesterday.

The students were selected based on the answer to the essay question, “You were just elected president of the USA on a platform of change. In the context of these challenging economic times, explain how you would implement one of your campaign promises.”

Each student received an award of $1,000 to help defray college costs. The winners are: Ms. Sminu Bose and Mr. Samuel Yanowitz, Clarkstown High School North; and Mr. Richard Jones and Mr. Michael Brown, Clarkstown High School South.

“The Clarkstown Education Foundation was created by community members committed to ensuring Clarkstown students have access to enhanced educational opportunities,” said Mr. Peter Kash, venture capitalist and president of the Clarkstown Education Foundation’s board of trustees. “We congratulate the scholarship winners and all of the students who participated in the competition.”

The Foundation was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in December 2007 to raise funds to support student scholarships and enhanced educational initiatives within the Clarkstown Central School District.
